N.C. Wyeth's 'Treasure Island' illustrations on view at Brandywine Museum

The Brandywine Museum in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the publication of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island with a show of all sixteen of N.C. Wyeth's (1882-1945) original paintings created for the book.

Wyeth created the illustrations in about three-and-a-half months, working spontaneously right on the canvas. He used neighbors and acquaintances as models for the striking three-by-four foot works which were reduced to around six inches tall in the printed book. The book's success began a long relationship between Wyeth and the publisher, Scribner, leading to a popular series of children's books illustrated by Wyeth. Read more in this Fox News article.

The exhibit is on view through November 20.

What a great museum! Thanks for the article ... now I need to plan a weekend road trip while this exhibit is still running.
